Kitchen Design

When looking at the design of your kitchen, we need to factor in the following:

  • Layout: layouts can be restricted by plumbing locations on some projects. Every site is different. Our tips for layouts are to try and put the pots near the cooktop, a large pantry for food storage, the cooktop will need to be away from any full height cabinets, you should allow room for a dishwasher, microwave, oven, cooktop and fridge.
  • Appliances: A typical kitchen includes an oven, cooktop, rangehood, dishwasher, microwave oven and fridge. Integrated dishwashers are becoming more common these days and prior planning needs to be done for the cabinetry to accommodate for this. We prefer to stick to the same brand and usually one of the major brands for reliability. If keeping your existing fridge, make sure the cabinetry opening is large enough to accommodate it. A built in coffee machine and some fridges may require permanent plumbing for a water supply to these appliances. If you have gas appliances you will either need to cap the gas off if moving to electric using a licensed gas fitter, or we can install new gas appliances to suit.
  • Electrical: Your kitchen will need above bench sockets for items such as toasters and kettles as well as sockets inside the cabinetry for items such as dishwashers and fridges. For functional lighting we recommend downlights to ensure you have plenty of light. For feature lighting pendants always look nice over an island bench. Some older properties don't have sufficient cabling in place for a new cooktop and this may need to be addressed before the cabinetry is installed. All electrical cooktops require an isolate in a place where it can be safely isolated in case of a fire. Our electrical team can assist with all of this.
  • Splashback: Tiles are probably the most common, other options are glass or wall panels. Smaller tiles will be harder to keep clean when cooking due to additional grout lines.
  • Plumbing: Allow for a kitchen sink and mixer and any costs required to re-locate plumbing to suit your new layout or to bring up to standard. If you've got old gal water pipes it's best to replace these while the walls are open.
  • Painting: You may wish to paint the walls in the same colour as the other walls in your property or ask our painting team for a complete internal re-paint to go with your new kitchen.

The above list is quite extensive but our team can guide you through the process. Reach out to us for a quote on your bathroom renovation today!
