Tips and tricks

Experiencing intermittent issues with your power points  orpower supply and unsure if you need our help? We suggest carrying out the following test on your properties safety switch to troubleshoot.  

Testing the safety switch 

It is recommended to test your safety switch every 3 months. To test your safety switch, push the test button. If the switch flicks OFF, switch it back ON. If the switch fails to switch OFF, switch it OFF and turn it back ON and push the test button again. If this fails to trip or does not re-establish the power supply, give our team a call.

Your safety switch has tripped 

If you come home or are home when your safety switch trips this is what you can quickly and easily find out what may have caused the circuit to trip.

1. Unplug power points from the wall every appliance within your home. This includes ovens, kettles, computers, air-conditioners and lamps.
2. Go to the switchboard and flick the safety switch to an ON position. If it holds, then you are good to try a process of elimination
3. One by one, plug back in and turn on each appliance. Stop when the power trips. This will hopefully identify the appliance issue. 
4. An electrician will not be needed if you decide to remove the appliance. However, if it was caused by a larger appliance, such as an air-conditioner, or if you cannot find the problem you may need an electrician.
